Programs & Clubs
At Nebbie Elementary, creativity knows no bounds as elementary students recently embarked on an exciting literary adventure, turning ordinary pumpkins into beloved book characters. The school's library has been transformed into a colorful, imaginative landscape where students' artistic talents shine. From pint-sized Piggy and Elephants to crafting their magical pumpkins to tiny superheroes emerging with capes made of pumpkin vines, the creativity on display is truly extraordinary. This week, the excitement reaches its zenith as students cast their votes to decide the top three winners, turning this annual tradition into a spirited competition. The event not only fosters a love for reading but also allows students to bring their favorite literary characters to life, demonstrating the power of imagination and the joy of storytelling.

Bluebonnet Books - Read Five to Vote in January!
Calling all 3rd - 6th graders to BATTLE!!
Battle of the Books
What is it?
Each participating elementary school in Rockwall ISD will form two teams, one for 3rd and 4th graders and one for 5th and sixth graders. During the months of September through December, all participants will read the books on the list, and they can join us weekly at our meetings for discussion at lunch on either Thursday or Friday. Then, participants will take the test in December that will help curate the official team. If you are selected for the team, team members and one alternate for each team will continue to meet weekly to practice for the competition. The competition is scheduled for March 29, 2023.
Supports
Students should complete one graphic organizer for each book on the Battle list. I strongly suggest that students complete these Graphic Organizers as they are reading the books - don't procrastinate! You may use internet sites, Destiny book summaries, collaborate with your friends to complete the Graphic Organizer. Using this organizer will help you remember a lot of details from the book so that you can use this review just before the competition. If you read a Battle book in September, it may be very difficult to remember much about the book next March.
Battle Lists
These specific books will have their own shelf that will be for team members only so we can assure that kids can read all the books. Please make sure that you DO NOT RETURN to the library shelves. It needs to go back in the right place so that we make sure the books get read in time for all team members. We will rotate the books every week, so make sure you are reading every day to get it done.

Robotics (4-6 grades)
My name is Lauren Milam, and I am the new librarian at Nebbie. I am excited about keeping the robotics team going! If your child is interested in robotics for fun OR for the competition, we plan on meeting Mondays 3:15 – 4:15 in the library.
Parents, please be lined up out front no later than 4:15. If a student is picked up late, they will be asked not to return. Please be aware if a child's behavior becomes a hindrance to learning, they will be asked not to return to robotics.
If a student is absent, this could affect the chances of being on the competition team. I can only take 8-10 students to the district competition. The students that are chosen will be based on attendance and behavior. If there are still too many students, I will choose students in an equitable way i.e. flip a coin or draw names.
